Carnival Corp has taken delivery of Costa Smeralda, the cruise giant's second LNG-powered cruiseship, for its Costa Cruises brand after two months of delays.

The 180,000-gt vessel was set to start a Mediterranean cruise programme in October but that got postponed in mid-September to 30 November due to building delays at Finland's Meyer Turku shipyard.

Departure from Savona, Italy, was put off again in late October to 21 December after Meyer Turku delayed delivery a second time due to the newbuild's "high complexity and sheer size," the yard said.
