Greece extended passengership certificates by three months on Friday, as part of a package to help companies and seafarers cope with what it expects to be a catastrophic year.

Boosted by millions of tourists flocking to Greek islands each summer, the country's coastal shipping industry achieves an annual combined turnover far exceeding €500m ($550m).

This year, however, Covid-19 is forecast to slash passenger revenue and transport volumes by between 40% and 50%, the shipping ministry said in a press release.
