Sri Lankan web surfers encountered an usual internet problem this week – an anchor on the line.

A Sri Lankan court is seeking $5m in damages after a general cargo ship operated by the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) reportedly severed the country’s main internet connection.

The 20,574-dwt State of Nagaland (built 1978) is accused of dropping its anchor on the exotically-named submarine cable, SEA-ME-WE III, which links Sri Lanka to the world wide web.
