Rio Tinto has reported a 6% year-on-year increase third quarter iron ore shipments, figures released Tuesday show.

It shipped 85.8mt in the September quarter, which was also 11% higher than the volumes seen in the second quarter of 2017.

The Australian mining giant has now shipped a total of 240.2mt in the first nine months of this year, unchanged from the same period in 2016.

Rio Tinto said the year-on-year improvement was due to the 2016 third quarter performance bing impacted by shiploader maintenance.
