The New York and Oslo-listed owner said on Monday it had contracted ships worth $1.17bn at Chinese and Korean shipyards.

It has returned to Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) for seven of the 180,000-dwt capesizes, for delivery from the first quarter of 2015 until the third quarter of the following year.

There are 11 more on order at Sungdong in Korea, with hand-overs from the second quarter of 2015 until the same quarter of 2016.
