Greek owner Eastern Mediterranean Shipping (EastMed) has locked one of its three capesize bulkers into a one-year charter with Japanese charterer JERA, European brokers say.

The 182,000-dwt Gortynia (built 2014) has been taken at an index rate set at 122% of the average spot rate across five key capesize routes.

The strong index rate may be explained by the fact that the ship is a top quality bulker, built by Japan Marine United.
