The ITF union has criticised a decision by miner BHP to end Australian crewing on bulkers shipping iron ore from Port Hedland to China.

A total of 80 domesitc seafarers will lose their jobs, ending more than 100 years of domestic seafarers servicing BHP and BlueScope steelworks.

Overseas crews will be brought in.

The two vessels involved are the 180,000-dwt Mariloula (built 2008) and the 170,000-dwt Lowlands Brilliance (built 2002).
