Some of the biggest names in the Japanese maritime sector have teamed up to develop an ammonia floating storage and regasification barge (A-FSRB) concept.

NYK Line, Nihon Shipyard, ClassNK, and IHI Corp have signed a joint research and development agreement for the commercialisation of the barge, which they claim will be the first of its kind in the world.

“Ammonia does not emit carbon dioxide (CO2) when combusted, it is expected to be a next-generation fuel that contributes to global warming countermeasures,” said NYK Line.
