A lack of transparency in the business structures of Greek shipowners is a major block to them being able to borrow from cash-rich Japanese lenders, a leading financier has cautioned.

Jigo Hayashi, general manager of international shipping and finance at Tokyo Century Corp, said that Japanese lenders were regularly turning down Greek loan requests due to a lack of clarity and confidence in corporate structures.
