Japanese marine electronics manufacturer Furuno is teaming up with Norwegian navigation firm Nautisk as it moves to develop a next generation of electronic chart display and information systems (Ecdis).

The first stage of the partnership involves Furuno distributing Nautisk’s software platforms across a global network of 250 agents, specifically targeting the Japanese, Greek and South Korean markets.

The agreement to sell the NaviTab digital publication and NaviPlanner voyage planning systems could provide a 50% boost to Nautisk’s current annual digital revenues of $16m a year, according to chief executive Thomas Fjeld.
