Major UK shipping firms have pledged to increase efforts to bridge the gender pay gap after a national survey revealed over three quarters of companies in the country pay men more on average than women.

Yesterday marked the final day for companies employing over 250 people to report gender pay statistics for the first time, in what national media has billed the largest data collection exercise in history.
