Clarksons has bought into a US-based shipping data company that counts Idan Ofer and Google chief Eric Schmidt among its known supporters.

London-listed Clarksons revealed today it had invested $5m in CargoMetrics Technologies, the quantitative investment manager that leverages proprietary maritime trade data.

The purchase was mentioned in the FTSE-250-quoted company’s half-year results, in which chief executive Andi Case spoke of an appetite for growth.
