Nearly three-quarters of maritime executives believe the shipping industry needs to look outside for the next generation of leaders, a new survey has found.

It appears to be counter to shipping's traditional style of companies promoting from within, while also recruiting and training ex-seafarers for executive roles.

Only 43% of more than 2,500 business leaders and executives polled by maritime recruiter Faststream felt there was enough talent already in the industry to become future leaders, while 73% said shipping companies must look to other sectors.
