The introduction of a tonnage tax in Switzerland would create a level playing field with other European countries for shipping-related companies, says Stephane Graber, secretary general of Geneva-based Swiss Trading & Shipping Association (STSA).
Graber says it would “correct an inconsistency” in the way maritime activities are taxed and allow companies to operate by similar rules to 18 other European countries that have already adopted tonnage schemes.
