Greek shipowner Maran Gas Maritime has splashed out nearly $395m to order an LNG carrier and a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at South Korean shipyard DSME .

DSME said the two newbuildings were worth a combined KRW 430.5bn ($394.1m).

The 173,400-cbm LNG carrier will be fitted with an M-type electronically-controlled gas-injection (ME-GI) propulsion system.

The vessels are due for delivery by May 2020.

TradeWinds understands that an FSRU previously contracted by Maran Gas at DSME was recently switched into an LNG carrier.

However, this latest regas vessel order is firm and looks set to become the company's first FSRU newbuilding on delivery in just under three years time.

Aside from the FSRU, these latest orders bring Maran Gas' LNG carrier fleet to 34 vessels of which 26 are in operation and eight on order.

Maran Gas owner John Angelicoussis has been a firm supporter of DSME, publicly signing for newbuildings during the yard's recent period of financial distress.

Through his shipping interests the Greek owner has contracted nine vessels with DSME this year, accounting for around 36% of the yard's orderbook.
