Qatargas has clinched a deal to ship LNG to China over 22 years.

The Gulf Times cited the company as saying PetroChina will take 3.4m tonnes per year through to 2040.

The gas will come from the Qatargas 2 project, a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil and Total.

The first cargo leaves this month.

CEO of Qatar Petroleum and chairman of the Qatargas board Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi said the agreement underlined Qatar's capability to ensure energy security to countries around the world, particularly in Asia.
