High-riding spot rates for LNG carriers easily come back down to earth, Poten & Partners has warned.

"Economics, as we know, is at the margin and small changes in the amount of exports that go to Asia will make large changes in the spot rates," Poten's Jefferson Clarke told Marine Money attendees on Wednesday.

Spot rates for LNG carriers have been breaking records, jumping from $38,000 per day in May to around $200,000 per day this month, a 180% growth year-over-year.
