Two LNG carriers fitted with South Korean-designed cargo containment system KC-1 are due to start lengthy gas trials following repair work in preparation for their redelivery.

KC LNG Tech chief executive Chul-hee Lee, whose company designed the system, told TradeWinds that the 174,000-cbm SK Serenity (built 2018) will begin gas trials in the middle of this month.

Lee said that these are scheduled to last 45 days at present — significantly longer than a normal exercise would take for a newbuilding.
