China Merchants Heavy Industry Jiangsu (CMHI Jiangsu) is aiming to join the small coterie of international shipbuilders capable of constructing large LNG carriers.
The shipyard, also known as CMHI Haimen, which delivered a small LNG ship three years ago, has teamed up with sister company Deltamarin to come up with two designs for vessels of 175,000-cbm and 180,000-cbm capacity.
Local news agencies reported that CMHI Jiangsu has received approval in principle from five classification societies — China Classification Society, Lloyd’s Register, ABS, DNV and Bureau Veritas.
