BGN International has made its first move into shipowning with an order for two dual-fuel VLGC newbuildings in South Korea.

Shipbuilding sources said the Dubai-based trading company is behind the pair of 86,000-cbm gas tankers that Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) disclosed on 1 June, without revealing the owner’s identity at the time.

The sources added that BGN is paying about $81m each for the vessels that will be constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries. The pair is set to be delivered in 2023.
