Expansionist-minded Japanese energy company Jera is likely to be more active in the chartering market for LNG carriers from next year as the company’s destination-free, US-produced LNG volumes start to come onstream.

Takuya Suzuki, general manager for Jera’s fuel business development unit 3 in the company’s energy transactions and projects department and gas and power development team, said: “From next year, we will start taking volumes from Freeport [LNG] and we may consider selling LNG outside of Japan because there is no destination restriction on [the cargoes from] this project.”
