Jera imported some 35 million tonnes of LNG in 2015. Takuya Suzuki, general manager for Jera’s fuel business development unit 3 in the company’s energy transactions and projects department and gas and power development team, says the company’s target is to keep its imports stable at between 30 and 40 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).

“Due to the uncertainty over nuclear [power], renewables and energy-use efficiencies, we do not expect growth in Japanese LNG demand, rather it will decrease in the future,” he said.
