Marinakis joins the Greek crush targeting LNG entry

Evangelos Marinakis is mulling making a move into LNG carriers as a second wave of Greek shipowners consider entering the gas sector.

Newbuilding sources said the Capital Maritime & Trading owner has been making enquiries at South Korea’s big three shipyards — Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Heavy Industries and DSME — for two LNG carriers with options.

Talk of the enquiry was initially dismissed by industry sources as creative broking, but yard insiders said the Marinakis-controlled shipowner has made an approach.
