Russian energy company Novatek is planning to use fewer specialised Arc7 LNG carriers on its second project, Arctic LNG 2, as it prepares to up its icebreaking capabilities and move towards year-round use of the Northern Sea Route (NSR).

Mark Gyetvay, who is deputy chair of Novatek’s management board and its chief financial officer, told TradeWinds: “What we are trying to do is reduce the number of additional Arc7s that we need to build.”
