A GasLog LNG carrier has rescued 17 people from a sinking boat in the Yucatan Channel south of the Gulf of Mexico, the company said today.

The GasLog Glasgow was heading for the Sabine Pass before diverting to help the boat that was apparently taking on water, it said on its LinkedIn account.

Those rescued were fed, watered and provided with Covid antigen tests before being taken to the nearby Isla Mujeres upon instruction by MRCC Mexico search and Rescue operations.

They were then transferred to the mainland by the Mexican navy. The vessel has since continued its voyage.

Commenting on the rescue, the company said it was "proud to acknowledge the dedication to help others in peril displayed by the master and crew on board! Well done, and a big thank you!".

The GasLog Glasgow was built in 2016 and is currently in the middle of a 10-year charter to Shell.
