Solvang is participating in a project that claims to be introducing a new game-changing concept in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in domestic Norwegian shipping.

An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system was installed on the 12,660-cbm Clipper Harald (built 1999), together with a scrubber.

It was found that NOx emissions from heavy fuel oil were chopped by 67%.

Per Magne Einang, director of Smart Maritime, said: “This project demonstrates a winning technology in facing the biggest future challenge to Norwegian commercial shipping, namely to achieve cleaner ships in a cost-efficient manner.”
