The so called Tripartite Forum meeting of industry associations is calling for regulators to review efficiency regulations for VLCC newbuildings.

The call from shipowner, shipbuilding and classification society representatives convening in Tokyo last week under the Tripartite Forum banner, comes shortly after the IMO upgraded its energy efficiency design index (EEDI) minimum efficiency ratings for newbuildings.

The grouping has questioned whether VLCCs can meet the revised EEDI Phase 3 standard which will become mandatory for newbuildings constructed after 2025.
