China’s 2018 ban on imported vessels for scrapping was greeted with great disappointment from promoters of green ship recycling.

The ban effectively cut off the world’s only high volume non-beaching location for dismantling vessels.

Harry Wang, a veteran Chinese green ship-recycling expert, believes that rescinding the ban and reopening ship-recycling facilities to foreign vessels is the only way to give the shipping industry a truly sustainable way to recycle ships on a large scale.
