The recent deadly attack on a product tanker in the Middle East has highlighted the danger that aerial drones pose to shipping when in the hands of someone with violent intentions.

But Maurice Thompson, a Perth-based lawyer who heads the global drones group at Clyde & Co, believes the more benign use of commercial drones by the shipping industry presents a widespread legal risk.
