One of the UK Freight Demurrage & Defence Association’s most active shipowners has stepped up to be chairman.

Petros Pappas takes on the top role with the advantage of having recent first-hand experience of seeing the biggest of the defence clubs in action.

His Product Shipping & Trading venture operated the 75,000-dwt tanker Res Cogitans (built 2004), which was involved in a landmark dispute over an OW Bunker fuel supply contract that began with an arbitration and was fought through London’s High Court to the Court of Appeal and ultimately to the UK Supreme Court.
