The American Club held its annual dinner in celebration of its 101st meeting in the Rainbow Room atop New York City's 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

The event last week attracted 230 club members, lawyers and insurance brokers, and included a speech by club chief executive Joseph Hughes recalling wartime UK prime minister Winston Churchill.

The night also featured American Club president Vincent Solarino — who is also president of Shipowners Claims Bureau — singing a couple of time-honoured classics, including Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York".
