Gard has to wait until next year to find out which limitation of liability convention will apply to an estimated $50m in claims resulting from a 270-tonne bunker spill in Rotterdam.
The ruling will determine how much Gard has to pay out, and is expected to set a legal precedent for the degree to which a tanker must be cargo-free before the bunker convention applies to fuel-oil spills.
