The US state of Maryland is preparing to discuss compensation following the refloating of a giant Evergreen Marine container ship and is starting with a call for a $100m fund.

The 12,118-teu Ever Forward (built 2020) was refloated earlier this week after 35 days aground at Chesapeake Bay, Maryland, Baltimore.

Following the refloating, Maryland environment secretary Ben Grumbles was quoted by CBS Baltimore as saying his department will be focused “on moving forward to the environmental restoration and compensation phase”.
