Nigel Palmer, moderniser who helped Britannia P&I go global, steps down

Britannia P&I, as its name suggests, has a reputation as one of the more traditional protection and indemnity insurers.

The mutual’s name is the ancient term for Roman Britain, but nothing much else about the club these days harks back to the distant past.

Former BP Shipping executive and tanker master Nigel Palmer, who steps down after 11 years as chairman, was a key figure in helping the club modernise.
