Insurance broker Willis Towers Watson has launched a new marine insurance policy to protect shipowners against the increasing risk of a cyber attack.

The move comes as the maritime industry faces a growing number of cyber attacks.

Willis Towers Watson global head of marine Ben Abraham said the 2017 NotPetya cyber attack that affected AP Moller-Maersk in 2017 was a “wake-up call” that brought into focus the need for owners and operators to have adequate cover in place against business interruption.
