Matson has scored a victory against APL in its multi-year fight to knock the CMA CGM-backed company's ships out of a government subsidy programme.

On Tuesday, District Judge Randolph Moss overturned a 2016 decision by the US Maritime Administration (MarAd) to allow the 1,638-teu APL Saipan (built 2002) into the Maritime Security Program (MSP).

The MSP provides US-flagged ships working internationally $5m each in exchange for government use in the case of war or national emergency.
