A Clarksons Platou offshore broker who broke Singapore’s Covid-19 lockdown restrictions has been permanently banned from working in the country.
Neil Buchan is among 140 people who have had their work passes revoked between 1 May and 25 June, Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said.
The 30-year-old Briton has been with Clarksons for nearly eight years. He specialises in subsea and renewables.
The 140 pass holders are all reported to have breached Singapore’s strict circuit breaker measures, stay-home notices or quarantine orders.
Buchan was among six work pass holders who were found guilty on 25 June for breach of circuit breaker measures.
They had gathered near Robertson Quay — a popular food and beverage area in Singapore — during the circuit breaker period when social gatherings were prohibited.
Out of these 140 cases, 42 were caught outside their homes during their stay-home notice or quarantine order period. A total of 98 people were caught breaking circuit breaker measures.
“These individuals were found eating, drinking and gathering in groups in public during the circuit breaker,” the MOM said.
“These took place at various locations such as dormitories, private residential areas, East Coast Park and Robertson Quay.”
“All work pass holders in Singapore must abide by the law," the MOM added.
“The ministry will continue to take enforcement actions against work pass holders who do not comply with the requirements, including the revocation of work passes.”
MOM said employers and work pass holders have a “joint responsibility” to ensure workers abide by safe distancing measures.
“As Singapore gradually eases into phase two of reopening, strict compliance is crucial to continue to safeguard the health and safety of individuals and the community at large,” it added.
