Maltese maritime lawyer Ann Fenech has become the first woman president of the Comite Maritime International (CMI).

The global consultative and treaty-drafting body has wrapped up its 125th anniversary session in Antwerp, the city where it was founded and remains headquartered.

Outgoing president Christopher Davis of New Orleans handed over the reins to Fenech, who was elected unopposed.

Quebec-based lawyer John O’Connor was elected to fill her vice president position, joining co-vice president Dieter Schwampe of Hamburg.
