Japanese shipowning giant K Line is stepping up its battle against boozing on board.

It has started to install alcohol detectors linked to smartphones on its vessels.

The system, developed by Pai-R Co, sees a detector connected to a mobile to launch a dedicated app.

A photo of the seafarer is automatically taken and sent to the cloud onshore, via satellite, along with the test result.
