A Ukrainian seafarer caught up in alleged arms transfers, in a case that has drawn in one of Sri Lanka’s most powerful political families, has ­finally been indicted.

Captain Gennadiy Gavrylov has been held in Sri Lanka since October 2015, when the 1,476-dwt Avant Garde (built 1982) was seized. He was ­later arrested and accused of illegally possessing and importing firearms and explosives.
