Size is currently a distinct disadvantage in the boxship charter market, where some vessels of 2,700 teu are able to earn as much — or as little — as ships of up to 8,000 teu.
That is because the larger ships are taking a hammering, with rates falling by one-third over three months as their trades are exposed to the onslaught of deliveries of bigger newbuildings.
