Wan Hai Lines is joining fellow Taiwanese liner companies Evergreen and Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp in ordering newbuildings to boost its fleet.
Shipbuilding players say Wan Hai has contacted shipyards in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan for a series of 2,800-teu containership newbuildings to be delivered in 2020. The deal would involve eight vessels with reefer capacity.
A Wan Hai spokesperson acknowledged that boxships of this size were one vessel type under study by the shipowner.
