Three crew members of a Japanese ro-ro are missing after their vessel sank following a collision with a South Korean-owned chemical tanker in the Kurushima Strait in Japan's inland sea.

Hokusei Kaiun's 11,454-gt Byakko (built 2020) capsized and sank in just under three hours after colliding with Heung-A Shipping's 3,497-dwt Ulsan Pioneer (built 2016).

The accident took place late on Thursday just before midnight local time (1500 GMT), according to Japan’s national broadcaster NHK.
