Large bulk carriers were the target of knife-wielding robbers looking to carry out maritime plunder in the Singapore Strait during the month of June.

The five incidents that involved capesize bulkers of New Shipping and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), along with smaller tonnage operated by Dusung Shipping, Wisdom Marine Lines and NYK Line, all took place off the port of Tanjung Pergam on the Indonesian island of Bintan, a picturesque island popular as a weekend resort getaway by residents of Singapore.
