A Japanese regional bank has made periodic condition inspections a loan requirement for a bareboat charter deal involving a local owner.

The move by Tokushima Bank is expected to be copied by lenders across the country.

It comes after a number of local owners in Japan, and their banks, have experienced vessels returned in poor condition on completion of bareboat charter contracts.
