The US government has approved funds for the last of the mariner training ships for the country's state-run maritime academies.

Tucked into the $1.5bn appropriations bill signed into law by President Joe Biden on Tuesday was money for a national security multi-mission vessel (NMSV) for California State University Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime).

The ship is the fifth of five set to be constructed by Philly Shipyard under the management of TOTE Services.
