Taiwan’s Wan Hai Lines has ordered five neo-panamax container ship newbuildings at Samsung Heavy Industries for delivery in 2024.

The liner company did not disclose the price. But in early March, Wan Hai said it received approval from its board to spend $700m on newbuildings, which suggests the 13,100-teu vessels are costing $140m apiece.

Shipbuilding brokers said that based on the price, they believed the SHI ships will run on conventional marine fuel.
