German shipbuilder Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) is developing a climate-neutral container ro-ro (conro) as part of Canadian owner Oceanex’s fleet renewal.

The two sides signed a cooperation deal in Canada this week in a move described as “critical to future vessel replacement planning at Oceanex”.

FSG managing director Philipp Maracke and Oceanex executive chairman Sid Hynes said the partners intend to investigate the use of alternative fuels, such as ammonia, methanol, synthetic fuels and biofuels, as well as hydrogen.
