NGO Shipbreaking Platform is urging shipowners to ensure ship demolition sales are in line with international regulations on the export of waste or, it said, they risk facing criminal investigation.

The Brussels-based clean shipbreaking lobby group’s comments come after demolition cash buyer Wirana Shipping was fined around $700,000 in Norway for its role as commercial manager in attempting to scrap the 38,282-dwt barge carrier Harrier (built 1989) in Pakistan.
