Containerships emit far more CO2 per ship than bulkers, but the dry bulk sector fleet emits more greenhouse gas overall, mainly due to boxship size increases.

This is according to the latest report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad).

Larger vessel sizes, combined with efficiency gains and the scrapping of less-efficient ships, has led to lower growth of CO2 emissions compared with global fleet tonnage growth, the UN trade body said.
